Salt and Light

J,N & E --
It's Thursday afternoon, and your cousin Cade has just made it home from the hospital. This week has been so amazing, watching Sissy give birth to sweet baby Cade. It makes me think about the fluidity of time. I guess that's what we'll call it. It's that constant state of flux. We imagine that we are only temporarily in a state of flux--and once we are through it, we will resume our real lives again--but we are always in state of flux.
There will always be something going on. You will always have something you are trying to accomplish, something that needs to get done. The "to-do list" of your life is never going to be done. There is always going to be another list. I guess you just have to sort of embrace the change.
I hope that I can be good at modelling that for you. Situations are always changing--good to bad, bad to good, indifferent to indifferent....You have to just "go with the flow"--this is harder than you think.
Next week Jake and Nick, you will be going to Camp Grands. I am excited for you to be with your cousins, you are going to have so much fun. But I will miss you. And I can't believe that I am even contemplating letting both of you spend the better part of a week away from me. I know it is all part of the process--giving you little bits of more and more freedom. And I will be with you some during the day. But still, it's a little like saying goodbye. It makes me melancholy.
I don't really know what it is I am trying to say to you. Live a BIG life. Take risks, and chances, fall down, love well, have your heart broken, laugh, laugh often, laugh at yourself. Embrace change, even when it seems like the changes aren't what you want. Be brave. Be fearless. Be yourself. Be salt and light.
Kiss, Kiss,
Mommy
