Another month, another birthday--and what do you know, we have a 6 year old in the house!!!!
Oh my sweet NickyBobo. Nick. ("just call me Nick.")
So, much to your relief you are 6. I went up to get you and you said to me, "Finally. I'm 6. I'm like the last kid in my class to turn six. J turns 7 in May..." And there it is, wrapped up in that one little snippet of dialogue. Something that is so very you. You just want to be part of the crowd, the pack, the peloton. Just because you don't want to stand out. You don't want to have unnecessary attention brought upon yourself.
This year has been so fun, being in kindergarten. I love to listen to you when you come home. You always have something interesting to tell us about what you learned at school today. (ex: you know why the leaning tower of Pisa is leaning? because they built part of it. had a war. built part of it. had a war. built part of it. and they weren't paying attention to how they were building it.--hmm. I didn't know.) It's as though you are actually paying attention to what they are teaching you in school. I only find this remarkable, because I myself paid no attention in school. I was quiet, and I got good grades--but I might also have a little ADD. I got distracted by my pencil, and the braids in Tisha's hair, and the laces on my shoes...you get the drift. But you, you actually pay attention. Refreshing.
You are like a cool drink of water to me. With your smile that makes your eyes sparkle. Your complete inability to look at a camera when a picture is being taken. The fact that when it's just our family, you only have one volume level. Loud. How you are shy in front of a group. How you will say "it's a beautiful day outside" and take your little sister out to play in the backyard (even when it's 30 degrees outside). Your questioning of why people think you look exactly like your older brother. That you are quick to say thank you.
Mister Man there have never been and never will be words enough for me to describe how I love you. I thank God for you every single day of your life. My life is more because you are in it. My heart is bigger because you are in it.
I hope that this year is all that you want it to be. I hope that you lose a tooth. I hope you play Legos every day. I hope something funny happens to you every day. I hope you continue learning. I hope you continue to be thankful. I hope that you continue to grasp what a treasure you are.
I love you forever. No. Matter. What.
Mommy
