In the trenches

I had dinner last night with some dear, old friends (or is it old, dear friends? I'm trying to say we have been friends for awhile and they are dear to me....not that my friends are old....it's the intracies and details of things where I get lost). What fun we had, talking and sharing about our lives and our kiddos.
There is something about talking to other moms, that makes me feel so normal. The trials and tribulations that are so universal--a snippet of a thought or conversation that you realize applies to you. Being in the trenches together, and being willing to lend your shovel.
And, it's so nice every once in awhile to have a long, uninterrupted girlie conversation without the children we love being attached to us (you know, literally, hanging off of you). A girlfriend just commented to me that so many of her mom friends don't talk about anything but being a mom. And I so get that too, so I value these friends who share their lives, and their thoughts and all the ridiculous things that make them smile everyday. They make me smile too...
