Happy Birthday to you...

Seven, Seven, Seven!
Jake, how did this happen? When did this happen? Wow! I know they say that time flies as you get older. But literally the other day I was holding you in my arms. Rocking you in the rocking chair, because you loved to be rocked ALL THE TIME as a baby. And now, now I am lucky to get the occassional squeeze hug. You are becoming so independent and so capable. You are becoming such a big help around the house. These are awesome things. But they make me realize that our time here is passing.
If you were to go away to college when you are 18, I have already spent a third of the time before that with you! How is that even possible. You, remarkable you, my oldest, my firstborn, my joy. I remember the moment you were born and my life shifted. There were new colors and dimension to the world around me. The wonder of you...do you know that I still feel that way about you? Do you have any idea how grateful I am for you. The beating of your heart, the breath of your lungs, the words of your mouth...you. I am so proud to be your mommy. You are a treasure of unestimable value.
I pray that this year is a wonderful year for you. That you will have the beginning of knowing yourself. That you will make friends this year that you will have for always. That you will challenge yourself in ways you don't yet know. That you will still let me baby you while there is the opportunity. My love, my love, my Jakey Joe. Happiest of Birthdays to you my boy!

Sweet Baby Girl,
I went to get you out of your crib this morning, and you were standing up holding onto the rail smiling at me. I am so amazed and awed by you, yet my heart screams "WAIT"...not yet, so quickly you move on ahead of me.
I had plans this time, to enjoy the babyness of you. I was going to be more careful not to push you on to the next milestone. But, my little girl there you are anyway...forging on ahead...not want to be left behind.
You delight me with the very beingness of you...
