For My Jakey

In August, we started 1st grade, and today, we finished. Well, I mean YOU finished 1st grade--I was more just along for moral support. And homework. And lunches. And carline, but I digress. Today, 1st grade became just a passing of time. And 1st grade offered up lots of challenges. Spelling tests. Book reports. And, I can see by the comparison of pictures alone some of the changes we have made.

First of all, how many inches did you grow this year? Seriously, we can share shoes this year. I wore your camo flip-flops last Thursday when I took out the trash. And it is hard to tell our t-shirts apart. But I can see just by the occassional glimpses in your demeanor that you are developing the calmer poise of manhood. PLEASE don't get me wrong. These are glimpses, momentary happenstances of helpfulness and calm and gentleness. They are surrounded by the wild, loud, busy vestiges of childhood. But this morning when we were on the front porch I could see it looking clearly at me through the camera. The beginning of self-assurance.

Do not race on to manhood too quickly sweet boy. I miss your tiny little snuggly self. Replaced by this boy who stands seven inches shorter than me and 28 years younger. I love your cheerfulness and your thoughtfulness. I love that you like to learn. I like that you love to be in the middle of things. Planning the next event, organizing the party. You amaze me Buckin' Rompo. I am so very glad to be your Mommy.

I am so glad to have you home for the summer!
I can't wait for our adventures to begin.

XOXO,
Mommy

Sippy Cup Drawer

Because it was Saturday at my house. And I want to document things that actually happen.

So, I open the drawer to get someone a sippy cup, so I can make juice. And of course, I find, a pink Croc. So my first reaction...obviously, is to find a camera. I have to find a camera to verify that I am not crazy. This is the kind of stuff that happens to me ALL DAY LONG. I love it. Really I do. But it is enough to make a normally sane person feel as though they might be tipping over the edge. Because do you know what it would have been like if it had been time to go somewhere, and I planned on having her wear her pink Crocs. I guarantee you of ALL the places in the house I would have looked, the sippy cup drawer is not on the list.

But as I focus in with my camera, I find there is more than just a shoe and an un-organized stash of sippies. Yes. Yes, that's right, someone decided the sippy cup drawer is also good for lego storage. It appears that the inmates are running the asylum.

I may not have checked the sippy drawer before. But I am on to them now...
