Um, wow!
It was really cold today. Really, really, really cold today. And icy. Really, really, really icy. So, when you have a school aged child that means you watch with eager anticipation for school cancellations. Honestly, I think I am more excited about Jake getting to stay home than I was about myself. I don't know what that says about me--let's not overanalyze it. I just adore having all three punks under one roof for an extra day.
It made me wish that every day was like this. We get up leisurely, have breakfast, play games, watch a show, play with toys, play games...etc. But then it occurred to me that I cherish these days only for the difference. The very nature of them, you are sort of trapped indoors--with only the supplies you have (no running to the store for anything you think of). It lets you be creative, and laid-back and relaxed. But if every day was like this, I would have no appreciation for it. That is just how I am. So instead, pictures of our little snow day.
Little Emmy Grace sat through the revolving breakfast times of four different people. She ate with each of us. I don't know exactly what this says about her appetite....we'll just worry about that another day.
Nick and Daddy had a little breakfast together.
We went upstairs to play, and I noticed the strangest thing...and it kept happening all day long. Jake is starting to develop these mannerisms, stances, movements. Things I know he will retain until manhood. I saw it this morning while he was working on a lego project on Nick's bed. I saw it again this afternoon when he very casually crossed his arms and leaned back against the cabinet. The vestiges of childhood are falling quickly away....
But we did play trains. We haven't played trains in years...probably since Jake was 4. But today the three of us played trains. And we were loud. And there were a lot of wrecks. And we had to rebuild the track....but it was fun.
And Nick, sweet and silly little Nicky. There is nothing more fun to him than playing legos with Jake. I believe this is his idea of bliss.
Um, I think those children are out in the icy weather in shorts. Um, should someone tell their mother? Who would let their kids out in 26 degree weather in shorts and flip flops?
--also, just for kicks, look at Nick's shoes...we rock it out here at the Eudaly's!
