Love is in the details

Sweet Potato, Peanut & Cupcake --
(Is it weird that you all have some sort of food nickname -- probably that's another blog for another day...)
Ok, so it's been way too long since my last entry--almost two weeks I think. And unfortunately, that is sort of indicative of me. Time slips by me virtually unnoticed. It just continues is rapid succession. Kind of like being on a people mover at the airport. You know, the ones where you feel uncomfortable just standing still, but instead feel this need to do this awkward run/walk. I feel as though that is how our life is going. And you have to stay so focused on not falling down that you forget to look around. And personally, I think there are a lot of interesting things to see at the airport. Granted, I don't want to sit at any airport longer that is absolutely necessary. But once you are there, it has this sort of odd intrigue for me. Which then makes me think about how incredibly different going to the airport is now compared with what it was like when I was your age. Papa used to travel ALOT and we went to the airport all the time. And then you could walk right up to the gate to say goodbye, or hello. We would often watch his airplane land and pull up to the gate, or stand at the window to wave goodbye (under the impression that he could see us through the little bitty windows on the plane). In fact one of my most boring field trips in elementary school was to the airport. I personally could have given a far better tour than the one we got. I think I am sort of wandering now...

Goodness these days of summer are passing fast, since my last entry we had the 4th of July and Daddy's birthday. Our anniversary is coming quickly, our trip to Kanakuk and then it will be the middle of August and we have to start thinking about going back to school. And truly, I just want to spend our days splashing in the pool and laying in the shade in the grass and listen to you discuss Transformers and Speed Racer.

I look at each of you and want to frame these memories in my mind. More than just still pictures, I want to remember the weight and depth and breadth of you. I want my mind to remember how each of your hands felt in mine and the smell of your hair. Jake, I want to remember that this is the summer I put on your flip flops and my foot was the exact same size as your shoe--and I realized that next summer we will be wearing at least the same size. Nick, I want to remember that this is the summer each of your answers was punctuated by "actually". "I want red...Actually, blue". "Juice...Actually, chocolate". "Optimus Prime...Actually, Bumblebee". Emily, I want to remember that on the 4th of July you rolled over onto your stomach in the middle of the night and you have been doing it consistently since then. Love is in the details, and I want to remember the details of each of you. The number of sunburns you have had, the number of juice boxes you've drunk, the number of temper tantrums I have witnessed. I want to go to bed at night and giggle over remarkable you.

I look at you and am awed by each of you, the skin on your cheeks, the eyelashes on your eyes, your real laughs. There is nothing in the world to me like catching a moment of laughter between you. I pray that you will have that always. That the three of you will have a true appreciation for this unbreakable bond that you have. That you will have a deep and abiding love for one another -- and that you would long to be in one anothers company. That you will marry Godly spouses who enjoy each other as well. I hope that you will be a tribe, a pack, a band of siblings.

Oh my little boogies, I have been indulging in the guilty pleasure of reading before I go to bed at night...which means that I've been going to bed way to late for too many nights now. I think it makes me a little incoherent and rambly. I have so many stories of you to tell...but exhaustion is creeping in, and so is a brand new book that I am wanting to start...maybe tomorrow I'll come back and tell you who won.

Hugs and Kisses, goodnight wishes
